Rise in Silent Tribute at Their 25th Anniversary Dinner

The twenty-fifth anniversary of the Society of American Magicians was celebrated last night with a dinner at the Hotel McAlpin. Magicians from all parts of the country attended.

During the roll-call of deceased members, President B.M.L. Ernst called for a silent rising tribute to the memory of Harry Houdini, who had been one of the most active of the society’s members.

Dr. A.M. Wilson, editor of the magician’s magazine, “The Sphinx,” gave a short address, in which he stressed the point that magic was the cleanest and most interesting form of public amusement.

Among those at the guests’ table were Mrs. Houdini and Mrs. Adelaide Hermann, widows of two magicians; Dr. Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Thurston, Gervais Leroy, Oscar S. Teale, the Collector of the Port of New York and Mrs. Philip Elting, Jack Lait, United States District Attorney and Mrs. Charles H. Tuttle, United States District Court Judge and Mrs. Francis A. Winslow, and Richard Van Dien.

The dinner was followed by a program of magic and dancing.
