Memorial Service by Jewish Theatrical Guild to Be Held Sunday

In accordance with his wishes, Harry Houdini, the famous magician and escape artist, will be buried at 10:30 this morning from the Elks’ clubhouse in West Forty-third Street. The various magical and theatrical organizations to which he belonged are to pay him tribute. A memorial service for the magician will be held by the Jewish Theatrical Guild, of which he was a member, at its meeting on Sunday afternoon at the Bijou Theatre, Eddie Cantor and Sir Harry Lauder will be among the speakers.

Both James Collins, for many years Houdini’s assistant, and Loney Haskell, Secretary of the Jewish Theatrical Guild, said yesterday that others besides Houdini knew the secrets of his tricks and escapes. Mr. Collins confirmed a Chicago dispatch which stated that four persons—himself, Houdini’s brother, known on the stage as Theo Hardeen, James Vickery and Leonard Hicks, a Chicago hotel man, were aware of the ways in which Houdini’s magic feats were performed.

Houdini’s brother has been doing the escape work for years, Mr. Haskell stated. He bears a striking resemblance to the late magician, and Mr. Haskell said that there was no question that Hardeen could duplicate some of his brother’s work.
