WHERE HOUDINI GOT HIS NAME

In the times of yesterday Albertini La Farge is “anxious to know if Houdini is using his true baptismal name, or if he has adopted the name of Houdin, the great French conjurer.” In 1908 Houdini published a book entitled “The Unmasking of Robert-Houdin.” It is dedicated to Houdini’s father, the Rev. M.S. Weiss, Ph. D., LL. D. * * * In the introduction Houdini states that when it became necessary for him to take a stage name he added an “i” to the name of Houdin, having been told that in French it would mean “like Houdin.”
