AN EXPLANATION FROM HOUDINI

To the Editor of The New York Times:

The reporter who reviewed my show on Monday evening, Dec. 14, stated in effect that letters were extracted from the pockets of coats deposited in the coat room in good faith, and that I asked questions of the audience, to their chagrin in some cases.

May I please inform you that I am exposing fraudulent mediums’ methods and enlightening the public as to how mediums get inside information? Instead of following the poor dupes to their homes and asking them to come back the next day, I am telling them how their clothes are searched when visiting mediums. I regret your reviewer did not understand my attitude. May I please point out that any persons who have had their letters read will never be duped by a fraudulent medium?

I trust you will grant me the space of an explanation in your columns so that those who read the notice may not get the wrong idea regarding my performance.

HOUDINI
New York, Dec. 24, 1925.
