Tired of hamburgers?
La Roches third-annual International Food Fair promises to cook up more than the run-of-the-mill meal during homecoming weekend.
Sponsored by the Multicultural Student Organization (MSO), the food fair will take place on Saturday, Oct. 22 in the College Center Square. MSO Students, staff and faculty will prepare international deserts, baked goods and main courses that may please the palate of the most discriminating food connoisseurs.
The fair allows us to appreciate our differences and similarities in a positive way, says Joyce Singletary, dean of students at La Roche.
And to many, theres nothing more positive than eating a satisfying meal, especially if that meal offers a change of pace from the cultural norm.
There will be at least 12 tables representing food from Puerto Rico, Russia, Australia, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Korea, Italy, Bosnia and others. For those not willing to deviate from the norm, an American table will be available. Anyone interested in obtaining the recipe for a favorite dish can pick up a recipe card from each table.
Singletary says the food fair gives students a chance to share their cultural background. If only I could get them to wear international costumes, she says.
MSO will ask for a $5 donation for non-La Roche students and commuters. Resident students will be asked to donate $1.50. All proceeds go to MSO programs, which take place every January.
