THE MAGIC

While at a banquet, waiting for dinner to be served, a man dressed in black approaches your table. As he introduces himself, he effortlessly shuffles a deck of cards with one hand, just like card sharks do in the movies.

It’s Tom Interval, one of the smoothest sleight-of-hand artists and entertainers in the country. A few minutes earlier, you saw him mingling with other guests as they were laughing and having a great time. And now you’re about to see why.

Tom deftly spreads the deck face down, each card evenly spaced to form a perfect spiral fan. You remove one card without showing him and return it to the deck, confident that there’s no way he could know what it is.

You’ve seen card tricks before. But as Tom delivers his rapid-fire, humorous spiel, you sense that this is not the kind of trick your uncle showed you when you were a kid.

“I have no idea what your card is,” says Tom. “But I know exactly where it is. It’s 13th from the top of the deck. If I cut the deck twice, shuffle it, cut it again and recalculate, your card is exactly 27th from the bottom.”

Tom swiftly cuts the deck with one hand, and out pops one card, spinning in the air like a tiny helicopter blade and landing in his other hand. Of course, it’s your card.

This type of entertainment, called close-up walk-around magic, is just one example of what Tom has to offer. His stand-up routine, which consists of larger, visually bewildering sleight-of-hand illusions, also is a hit with people of every age and background.

So whether it’s an audience of two or 200, Tom Interval has a magic presentation perfectly suited for the occasion.
