A magical Interval

February 24, 1988
Franklin Park magician Tom Interval plans to spend the next six months at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Va.
It’s not that he’s enchanted with the Old Country. The 21-year-old Interval, who was named Pittsburgh Magician of the Year by the International Brotherhood of Magicians in 1985, will be the first resident magician at the park’s new magic shop.
Interval will demonstrate items available at the shop and perform his own brand of sleight of hand with coins and cards. He will entertain at Busch Gardens Friday through Sept. 5.
Interval’s interest in legerdemain began when his mother, Dora, gave him a magic kit when he was 6. He started performing in front of audiences when he was 12.
Interval has been taking courses at the University of Pittsburgh and plans to return there in the fall. But he has no thoughts of becoming a full-time student.
I’d rather do magic as a career anyway, he said.
He has taught a course in magic at Community College of Allegheny County.
