Tom Interval

Magician to reveal secrets—to students
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

April 24, 1994

North Hills magician Tom Interval, who says magic as a hobby develops confidence, improves hand-eye coordination and boosts self-esteem, is conducting magic classes at Hampton Community Library.

Classes are scheduled from 4 to 5 p.m. today and May 4, and will cover beginners’ magic tricks, utilizing playing cards, rope, rubber bands, paper clips and more.

Students also will learn the importance of personality, presentation and showmanship for any size audience.

Interval, 27, of Franklin Park, developed an interest in conjuring at the age of 6, and has entertained audiences for more than 15 years. A former Pittsburgh Magician of the Year, Interval has been a magician, actor and representative for Busch Gardens theme park in Williamsburg, Va. He also has taught magic for Busch Gardens, Community College of Allegheny County, the YMCA and others.

“When learning magic, a child discovers how to use certain physical and verbal expressions to misdirect an audience, and as a result, he or she starts to fool people,” Interval said. “This gives the youngster confidence which may filter down into other areas of the child’s life.”
