SONS OF RABBIS ORGANIZE

Those on Stage to Aid Red Cross and Similar War Activities.

Reverend Dr. Mayer Samuel WeissTo aid the Red Cross, the Young Men’s Hebrew Associate, and kindred war activities, the Rabbis’ Sons Theatrical Benevolent Association was organized yesterday afternoon, and the twenty or more persons present, all sons of rabbis, each contributed one week’s salary. This totaled $8,000. In addition, the new organization elected officers and decided to later give a big benefit performance, at which the talent would consist entirely of rabbis’ sons. The officers elected were, Harry Houdini, President; Al Jolson, Vice President; Irving Berlin, Secretary; Bert Cooper, Financial Secretary; Walter Hast, Traveling Representative; and Howard Brothers, Sergeants-at-Arms.

“Our purpose is to get all the sons of rabbis who are in the show business together in this organization,” said Mr. Houdini after the meeting. “It is surprising how many sons of Jewish clergymen there are on the stage. The Secretary or any of the other officers will be glad to furnish information to sons of rabbis who want to join.”
